Condolence & Memory Journal

I am so sorry to hear of Dr Villanueva's passing. I worked as a teen volunteer at St. Joe's years ago and was blessed enough to get to work in several surgical pre-op and post-op departments. He was always very kind to everyone, even us teen volunteers. He was wonderful with his patients. A very great doctor and great man. I am sorry for your loss.

Dr. V was one of three of the Filipino anesthesiologists I had the pleasure to work with and call a friend. I started at St. Joseph Hospital just a month or two after Dr. V did. He'd make pre-op rounds at night or we would be working in the evenings or on-call and we had time to talk. He was a great instructor while in the OR and caring for his patients. I don't think he got angry, just frustrated when things weren't going well. I remember after caring for several cancer patients he made a comment about it seemed the nice people died too young and that he was going to be crabby when he got older. I know that never happened. After I had my daughter he walked with me to the nursery and said he thought she looked like one of his (Filipino) with her dark hair and eyes. I told him it was because I worked so much with him, Dr. Sandoval and Dr. Reyes. We talked about when he practiced OB back home, Filipino customs, vacations and trips his family would take. I missed him after he left the hospital and counted on Dr. Sandoval to keep me updated but then he moved to Florida. I will cherish the memories of Dr. V and know he has a special place with the Great One. God Bless him and his family.
