Condolence & Memory Journal

Steve, I am so very sorry to read about your passing. Remember the case involving "the sword" and brother, that was the longest home run, I've ever seen. Steve, thanks for the many fond "work" memories. Hugs and prayers to your wife, and family.

So sorry to hear of Steve's passing. First met Steve in 2002 in Tustin at the Kett Center when he and Jim LaBuhn (there's a pair :) were running the Prosecutor School with the MAPC. Steve was a good friend and looked forward to seeing him at the schools and conferences. Got to meet Cathy and Ashley over a dinner in TC a couple of summers ago. Steve always talked about his family and how proud he was. He gave me some of his baseball cards years ago that I framed and put in my den. What a great guys. Had many talks about baseball as we both loved the game. Sorry I didn't have the chance to meet him earlier. Thoughts and prayers from Cheri and I for the Thomas family.

Steve's uncle married my aunt, so he and I kind of grew up together. Years later, during his first campaign for Sheriff, I introduced him to a friend of mine - a lovely Italian girl named Cathy. The rest, as they say, is history. Steve was just a stand-up guy. No BS. A great guy with a contagious grin and a mischievous snicker. He'd give you the shirt off of his back, right after he told you he ironed it himself because no one irons a shirt like he irons a shirt and he likes to iron shirts (true story). I thank God for putting Steve in my life, he was a great friend and you just don't get too many of those in your lifetime. Along with hundreds of others, I will miss him terribly. May God bless Cathy, Sarah & Ashley and help them through this difficult time. And I raise my glass to Steve with a heartfelt sendoff: "Well done, my friend. Damn well done".

My deepest condolences go out to Steve's family. I haven't seen Steve in many years (perhaps it was on his campaign) but my memories of him was that he was a happy man always with a smile on his face and deeply devoted to his family. I'll be praying for you all. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. John 14:2

Steve and I met years ago when he was playing slo-pitch softball and I was the umpire. As years went on both he and I had a sports friendship that also included eventually a Marine City High School Football which meant a lot to both of us.

When Steve was running for the Macomb Sheriff position, I joined his team that were the most dedicated individuals, for we participated in the campaign and it "fit like a glove".

His campaign colors were black and gold and so was my softball bat. So I took those bumper stickers put them on my bat, and chimed out "GO TO BAT FOR STEVE THOMAS!"

One helluva guy, who always had a 'bright spirit" about the reality of life. Not many around with his positive, down to earth, enjoyment in his every day. "GOD BLESS."
