Tribute & Message From The Family

Michael Douglas Thomas was born on September 21st, 1965 in Detroit, Michigan to Averill and Wilma Sue Thomas. He went on to study Business and Marketing at Michigan Christian College where he met his life partner Simone Yvette Hipkins (Thomas). He continued his education at David Lipscomb University, where he graduated with his Bachelors degree. Mike and Simone were wed on June 25th, 1988, and would have celebrated 31 years together. Mike was a man of passion, embracing life with intention at every step. He loved the sport of baseball, whether it was watching a professional game, or mentoring young adults through the Sterling Heights Baseball and Softball Association. He had a love of music ranging from rock and roll to Simone's broadway show tunes. But most importantly, he loved his family. Mike was survived by his parents Averill and Wilma Sue Thomas, his wife Simone (Hipkins) Thomas, and three children Molly King (Jonathan), Madeline Thomas, and Maxwell Thomas. In addition, Mike was surrounded and made a significant impact on his extended family and great friends. Michael joined the Lord's kingdom on June 24th, 2019, at the age of 53. He passed peacefully in the town he called home, filled with the ones he loved. We celebrate the life of a father, son, leader, friend, and child of God.Visitation Friday 3-9pm at Wujek-Calcaterra & Sons 36900 Schoenherr at Metro Parkway (16 mile). Instate Saturday at 10am at Rochester Church of Christ, 250 Avon Road, Rochester Hills, MI 48307 until time of service at 11am. Mike Thomas was my Supervisor, and a true friend. He had a permanent, friendly demeanor. With my ongoing personal struggles, whenever I needed personal time, it was granted without question. These days, I tend to work a bit slower than my co-workers. It is as if Mike had a special insight into why (without asking). I am a bit apprehensive as I look toward the future with a different supervisor. No one could ever be like Mike.

I knew Mike as a baseball coach and he knew me as an umpire. That changed when he became a league administrator. I got to know him as a person; thoughtful, ego-free and caring. Two weeks ago, as we stood in the rain at a 10U baseball game, we really got to know each other's background, family, musical interests, etc. It's as if I had discovered a kindred spirit. I will never forget that night nor will I ever forget Mike. God Bless Simone and the family!

Heartfelt condolences to the entire Thomas family on the sudden and unforeseen passing of Mike from his earthly to eternal life! It is obvious that he lived his earthly life to the fullest and shined his Light brightly for Jesus, and without a doubt, is enjoying an eternity we cannot yet imagine! John 14:2 I pray you will experience His incredible strength and peace in the days and times ahead. Know that you are surrounded in love and support!

Mike was such a kind, Godly man. His love for his family was infectious. He was so, so proud of his kids, and so, so in love with his wife. I'll forever be grateful for our friendship over the last 10 years at work. I just thought of him the other day and am so regretful that I never reached out to say "Hi!" May his family find a little comfort in the memories of him. He will forever be your guardian angel.
