His Lord said to him, Well done, you good and faithful servant Matthew 25:21.
PFC Kenneth William Likens was reported as Killed in Action by shrapnel wounds on 22 November 1943 on Tarawa. In 2011/2012, Chief Rick Stone, while a member of the Department of Defense (DoD), investigated all of the Tarawa MIA's and determined that PFC Likens was NOT an Unknown buried in the Punchbowl Cemetery in Hawaii. Researchers from the Chief Rick Stone and Family Charitable Foundation determined that PFC Likens was buried in Grave 12, Row D, Cemetery 33 on Tarawa, which was known as one of Tarawa's Lost Cemeteries. A contractor finally discovered Row D in Cemetery 33 on Tarawa in 2019. PFC Likens was the first missing Marine identified from the long lost cemetery row and his official identification was announced on 1 July 2019.
Welcome home Marine! We share the joy of your family in your return! God Bless you and thanks to ALL who never forgot you and your service to our country!

When I started volunteering for MIA/POW recovery work on Tarawa back in 2011 with the non-profit History Flight organization, we were ecstatic when we located one or two lost boys. I was back on the island last July after our History Flight team had located the 'lost' Row D of Cemetery 33 were Pfc. Likens was recovered and now these Marines are coming home in the 10's and 20's at a time. If it's alright with the family, I would appreciate being involved with Pfc. Likens final trip home.

It is with great honor and respect that my family returns home PFC. Likens. Who fought bravely and died honorably for our beloved country some 76 years ago. A true patriot of which we are indebted.
