Betty Jane Giannotta (née Root), 93, passed away on December 18, 2018. She was born on the east side of Detroit and attended St. Catherine where she met her lifelong sweetheart, Louis Giannotta. They were married in New York City, just before he was shipped out for WWII. They celebrated their 70 years of marriage before he passed away in 2015. She always felt lucky to find the perfect person to spend her life with.
Betty spent most of her younger years caring for six children, but she always found time to pursue other activities—bowling and dancing. For years, she was a member of a women's bowling team and, with her husband Louie, went dancing frequently. She was also an avid card player and passed that love along to her children and grandchildren. She learned early that there is only one happiness in life—to love and to be loved.
Once the children were mostly grown, she became a manicurist and developed a passion for another sport—golf. She was most proud of her hole-in-one accomplished in the early 1990s.
Betty is survived by her children, Steven (Sharon), Susan (Don Carter), Mark (Suzan), Leigh (Ken Stubblefield), Philip (Betsy) and Kelly (Dave Larson), along with 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She will be laid to rest this summer alongside her husband Louie at Arlington Cemetery.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, January 13, 2019, 1-5 p.m. at Golden Hawk Golf Course (one of Betty's favorite places), located at 9861 Meisner Rd, Casco, MI 48064. Formal remembrances will take place at 3 p.m. and will last about 30 minutes. Dinner will be served throughout.
