Ethel "Edie" Sobczak (nee: Redmond) was a force of nature with a big heart and a lively sense of humor, a church-going,
bingo-playing, Rummy champ who was fiercely loyal and incredibly generous to those she loved. Through strong will and determination, she defied odds all her life, including the last eight years (and a few more days) beyond doctors' predictions, and she enjoyed
and was grateful for each one. We know she was met at the gates of heaven by her lifelong friend, Aunt Joanie and her Bingo Buddy, Uncle Joe. She leaves behind a thankful and devoted family: her loving husband, Walter; her children Linda (Rick) Olejnik, Margie
(Tim) McLafferty, Walt Sobczak, and Phyllis Czapski; her seven grandchildren, Dana, Allison, Steven (Holly), Anna, Cate, Ricky, and Grace; and four great grandchildren, Amelia, Landon, Clayton, and Graham, as well as extended family and many, many friends who became
family. Visitation Friday 3-8 pm with a 7 pm Rosary at Wujek-Calcaterra & Sons, Inc., 36900 Schoenherr at Metro Parkway (16 Mile). Instate Saturday 9:30 am until time of 10 am Mass at Assumption Grotto Catholic Church, 13770 Gratiot, Detroit. Private interment, St. Clement Cemetery, Center Line. Memorial contributions to the American Lung Association or Assumption Grotto Catholic Church are appreciated. Please share memories with the family at their "On-Line Guestbook" at
