MICHALCZAK, Loretta. July 24, 2017. Age 70. Beloved twin sister of Laura (the late Ronald) Conklin. Proud and loving aunt of Hollie (Anthony) Kotwicki and Ryan Conklin and grand-aunt of Jake and Max. Loretta was a very accomplished and respected gourmet chef. She studied at the Fanny Farmer School of Cooking in Boston and was the youngest chef ever to win the Auguste Escoffier award. A protege of chef Simone Beck, Loretta worked with Julia Childs and Jacques Pepin throughout her career. She also authored a cookbook and spent many years as a chef and food services director; she worked at the Harvard Club in Boston and the Ponchartrain Hotel in Detroit. The family will receive guests Wednesday, August 2 from 9:30am until time of 10am memorial Mass at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in St. Clair Shores.
