In Loving Memory of Richard Ferdinand Okerstrom
Richard was born in Detroit Michigan on September 6, 1930 and as a longtime resident of Roseville Michigan, passed away on February 27, 2020. Richard served as Sergeant and demolition expert in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a soldier in a communication reconnaissance battalion and received the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
He was beloved by his family and respected among his close knit friends, neighbors and colleagues.
Loving husband of the late Roseann Okerstrom and brother to his late sisters Gertrude Hakim and Dorothy Glynn.
He is survived by his children Gail Asman (Ronnie), DeeDee Kapanka (Paul), Gary Okerstrom (Susan), his grandchildren, Chad Asman (Hollie), Kristen Parker (Norm), Derek Asman (Ashley), Brandon Asman (Chrystina), Katelyn Kapanka, Lauren Kosch (Greg). Loving grandfather to 15 great-grandchildren.
Family will receive friends for visitation on Sunday, March 1, 2020 from 3 pm – 8 pm at Wujek Calcaterra & Sons at 36900 Schoenherr Rd, Sterling Heights, Michigan. Funeral service will be held on Monday, March 2, 2020 -10 am at Wujek Calcaterra & Sons in Sterling Heights immediately followed by processional to White Chapel Memorial Park Cemetery at 621 W. Long Lake Rd, Troy, Michigan. Flowers can be sent to Wujek Calcaterra & Sons, Sterling Heights.
